Gianandrea Noseda
Gianandrea Noseda makes his triumphant return to Torino, at the helm of the Teatro Regio
Philharmonic for a performance of music from Alfredo Casella’s La donna serpente, one of his
most important performances in conducting Torino’s major orchestra. The symphonic fragments
from Casella’s 1932 opera will be performed following the late American composer George
Walker’s “lament” dedicated to his grandmother Melvina King, who had been born into slavery.
The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, which his great admirer Richard
Wagner called a “dance in its highest aspect, the loftiest deed of bodily motion, incorporated into an
ideal mold of tone.”
