Milan, the MITO of Europe

A "pocket-sized" history of the piano concerto in ten chapters, entrusted to two performers both seated at the keyboard: one piano takes on the solo part, while the other plays the orchestral role—just as often happens in the study and early presentation phases many composers have gone through during the creation of their works. From the classical forms of Haydn and Beethoven, the journey moves through the Romantic generation of Chopin, Schumann, and Liszt, to the early modernism of Brahms and Grieg, and finally to the contrasting yet complementary unrest of the early twentieth century in Rachmaninov and Prokofiev.

The protagonists are a group of young pianists, diverse in origin but all students of Davide Cabassi, who are gradually gaining recognition for their skill and charisma at the heart of today’s concert scene.
