Coro della S.A.T. Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini

Last update: before 2019
The SAT Choir was founded in Trento in the year 1926. At the beginning his name was SOSAT Choir but since the year 1932 this name was changed into SAT Choir. The first singers were the brothers Enrico, Mario, Silvio e Aldo Pedrotti and some friends of them. They worked out a new way of singing popular songs arranging them by ear for “a cappella choir” without any score and without any musical knowledge. The musicians Luigi Pigarelli and Antonio Pedrotti soon appreciated this new way to sing popular songs and collaborated with the Choir arranging the songs in accordance not only with the musical rules but with their deep artistic disposition too. The first repertoire included popular songs collected in Trentino but soon it was extended to the songs collected in several Italian Regions and other Countries. Many famous musicians were interested in the Choir: Renato Dionisi, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Andrea Mascagni, Bruno Bettinelli, Aladar Janes, Renato Lunelli, Giorgio Federico Ghedini, Lino Liviabella, Teo Usuelli. Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, one of the most famous pianists of last century, was a close friend and a fan of the Choir and arranged wonderfully for it 19 popular songs. The Choir performed about two thousand concerts all over the world. It had only three conductors: Enrico Pedrotti till 1938, Silvio Pedrotti since1938 till 1988, Mauro Pedrotti since 1988. The Choir recorded his songs since the year 1935 by Columbia, Carisch, RCA and, since 1996, by his own recording firm Fondazione Coro della SAT. At present the Choir is composed by 32 singers and their average age is about 45 years.
