Albinoni and Vivaldi led the charge in Venetian revitalization, followed by the glorious seasons of Willaert, the Gabrielis, Monteverdi. Their music brought to life churches along the calli, the palazzi and Venice’s many theatres. It gave shape to an instrumental culture that would reverberate across the lagoon toward faraway cities and new generations of composers in Italy and Europe.
