Wild Passions
and Pastoral Loves

This evening’s program whisks us away to an arcadian world of pastoral love amid magical, woodland landscapes, where nymphs and shepherds reel and rejoice over their romantic escapades. The soundtrack of this journey provides a scrumptious selection from one of the best-loved musical forms of the 18th century, the Italian cantata. We’ll be hearing from famed composers such as Händel, Marcello and Porpora, alongside lesser-known names like Carlo Antonio Benati, Pier Giuseppe Sandoni, Pietro Domenico Paradisi and Leonardo Leo.

Nicola Porpora Cantata “Alla caccia dell’alme” Gerolamo Bononcini Cantata “Lasciami un sol momento” Pier Giuseppe Sandoni Suite in re minore Benedetto Marcello Cantata “Ah, ch’io sento in lontananza” Georg Friedrich Händel Cantata “Lungi da me pensier tiranno” Pietro Domenico Paradisi Sonata VI in la maggiore Leonardo Leo Aria “Del pigro Lete” Carlo Antonio Benati Cantata “Come l’ape e senza i fior”
