GHOSTS
The imagery conjured up by Debussy is never real, yet always present. The same holds true for the South American freedom song hiding in Rzewski’s piece, and Corigliano’s use of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, as well as in the last Native American who appears in Bresnick. These musical ghosts, amid power and magic, pass the torch.
