From the late 1600s to the early 1800s Europe was fascinated by the so-called Turquerie, orientalist fashion that was a symptom of the discovery of “other” cultures. Turkish styles provided inspiration for musical masterpieces like Mozart’s The Abduction from the Serraglio, The Turkish March and many others.
