Omaggio a Cathy Berberian

Milano
/ 23 August 2013
Eclectic and passionate, Cathy Berberian was one of the greatest 900's contemporary and avantgarde music performer. Her personal and professional history is strictly linked to Milan, where her life and career had a turning point. In Milan Berberian studied at Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Verdi with Giorgina del Vigo, that had an important role in her career: with her Cathy sperimented her multifaced vocal possibilities - distinctive characteristic of her art - and learned to follow her instinct, beyond the technique, during her performance. Thanks to this she became a great performer, charismatic and extremely succesful in catching the audience attention. In Milan, still at Conservatorio, she also met Luciano Berio, that was her husband for 17 years and with whom she reached some of the most succesful results of her career. In the 30th anniversary of Cathy Berberian’s passing MITO SettembreMusica celebrates the great artist with two special events. Until september 30th at Museo del 900 there is an exhibition of Eugenio Carmi's prints realized as backdrop for Cathy Berberian's Stripsody, a composition based on the exploration of the onomatopoeic sounds of comic strips. Click here for further information. In september 10th at Castello Sforzesco MITO presents a conference to remember the artist. At the end of the event you can visit Museo degli Strumenti Musicali for free. Click here for further information.
