The National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1953 and now it’s the largest technical and scientific museum in Italy and one of the largest in Europe and worldwide.
Housed in an Olivetan monastery of the Sixteenth Century, the Museum is dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, a personality that can combine art, science and technology in intuitions of extraordinary value.
Its mission is promoting scientific and technological culture, making it available to everybody. The purpose is to arouse interest in technology, to convey enthusiasm for the understanding of science through active, involving and emotional experiences to stimulate curiosity, creativity and discovery. Today, collections and interactive laboratories (i.lab) are organized into seven departments: Materials, Energy, Transports, Communication, Leonardo Art&Science, New Frontiers and Science for childhood.
The Museum is a place of meeting, dialogue and confrontation where people can experiment interactive workshops; participate to theatrical activities; visit a temporary exhibition; discover the most important collection of machine models made from drawings by Leonardo da Vinci; climb aboard the submarine Enrico Toti; take part in artistic performances, lectures, workshops and events in order to be always up-to-date anda critically aware on contemporary issues.
