ORCHESTRATING RUSSIAN-STYLE
Rimsky-Korsakov was the father of 20th-century Russian music, especially with regard to orchestration. Stravinsky, who studied under him, developed his technique and reinvented it. Shchedrin – who was born in 1932 – must have had fun revisiting Stravinsky when he composed the mischievously good-humored piece slated for this performance.
