The chants are based on the ochtoechoi modal system and unmistakable standard melodies. Over the centuries, Armenian culture, in its specificity, became a sort of bridge between East and West as it became more westernized. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Turks.
