Tomorrow at 9 p.m. at Auditorium of Milan Fondazione Cariplo MITO SettembreMusica offers to the public a great symphonic concert: the prestigious Orchestra Sinfonica and Coro Sinfonico Giuseppe Verdi, directed by Xian Zhang, with the Coro di Voci Bianche de laVerdi and the mezzosoprano Monica Groop will perform the Symphony n. 3 in D minor of Mahler. An important and intense program, one of the greatest symphonic works ever written for the duration, the extent and the articulation of its formal dimensions, the vastness of its instrumental and vocal structure, for all the various poetic meanings that transcend the notes. Xian Zhang has aroused much interest all over the world. Born in Dandong, China, Ms Zhang made her professional conducting debut at the age of 20 in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Central Opera House in Beijing. Xian Zhang ended her three year tenure as the New York Philharmonic's Associate Conductor (and the first holder of the Arturo Toscanini Chair), a post she held since 2005 after serving as Assistant Conductor for one year. She maintains a regular relationship with the orchestra and returns in 2009/10 for a subscription week. In 2009/10 she will become Music Director of La Verdi. An unmissable concert on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Gustav Mahler!
