Milano
/ 13 September 2010
Today at Teatro Elfo Puccini from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., MITO SettembreMusica proposes a day completely dedicated to the sounds of the African continent. Main partner of the African Day is eni, that supports and enhances many cultural and artistic events with wide social implications, in Italy and worldwide. In Africa, in particular, eni’s commitment is represented by a long history of cooperative relationship and agreements made in more thant fifty years of presence on the continent.
At 4 p.m. the concert will be opened by Anouar Brahem, the specialist in oud, the Arabic lute. The artist is a witness of the profound transformations of the Arab culture and his music is completely beyond the labels, from jazz to world music in a complete freedom of expression. The concert will be live on streaming on the homepage of this website. (Free admission)
At 6 p.m. it will be the turn of the Nigerian Tony Allen, considered the father of afro-beat music. With a jazz-funk sound, he’s one of the most talented assemblers of African tribal and hypnotic rhythms. (€ 5)
To conclude the African Day, at 9 p.m. there will be the concert of Idir, the Kabyle singer best known abroad, famous because he manages to keep alive the language and the traditions of Kabylia, contaminating them with other cultures, due to his numerous international projects. (€ 10)
