Thanks to interest and support from Giovanni Terzi, Milano’s Commissioner of Leisure Time Activities, what was formerly the Nuovo Arti cinema located at Via Mascagni 8 became, on January 21, 2008, the home of Teatro Derby. The name re-evokes the spirit and atmosphere of the legendary Milanese night club of the 1960s that gave rise to the birth of Italian cabaret. The theater, currently under the management of Teatro delle Erbe, has a dual focus. Programming is headed by Maurizio Colombi, who directed the hit musical Peter Pan and served as art director at Teatro delle Erbe, while Progetto Derby, a workshop within Teatro Derby, is run by Teo Teocoli, who oversees the cabaret section, and Mario Lavezzi, who heads the music section. The season offers a wide range of entertainment and performances, including cabaret, dance, jazz concerts, opera and afternoon events for children.
