Officina Teodosio ATM

Via Teodosio, 89
Bus 33, 55
The Officina Generale ATM in Via Teodosio, inaugurated in 1929, is an important example of industrial architecture. The site occupies an area of 43,000 square meters of which over 29,000 are covered. The purpose was to create, under these beautiful spans, a production complex where maintenance, repair and tram quality control services could be centralized. Today it is one of the most industrialized ATM’s sites utilized for the development of new technologies in the field of tram transportation. The Officina offered a complete production cycle, from design to development, creating, under autarky, a light alloy bogie tram that was exhibited at the Trade Fair in 1938, receiving unanimous approval worldwide. Even today, under the magnificent spans of the Officina, the ATM’s skilled workers are reconstructing these light trams, that circulate through the streets of the city with the characteristic "yellow Milan” livery. Between 1946 and 1948, after the war, dozens of coaches destroyed by bombing were rebuilt here. In the early 1970’s the Officina was the first one to create a new prototype tram with three bodies called "Jumbo-Tram". It still runs today in the city alongside the modern "Sirietto”. For its beauty and its harmonious style, the Officina is also opened to the citizens of Milan for prestigious events, such as the International Music Festival MITO.
