Among the most celebrated works by Baroque architect Guarino Guarini, Palazzo Carignano was the headquarters for the Subalpine Parliament beginning in 1848, and from 1861 to 1864, with a makeshift seat set up in the courtyard, home to modern-day Italy’s first parliament. Currently headquarters of the Museum of the Risorgimento, it houses documents and objects that appertain to Italian history from the late 1700s to the anti-Fascist period.
