Sentieri selvaggi

Last update: before 2019
Sentieri selvaggi was founded in 1997 by Carlo Boccadoro, Filippo Del Corno and Angelo Miotto, together with some of the best italian musicians, with the aim to bring contemporary music closer to a wider audience. The debut of the ensemble in Milan was sold out. Since its inception, Sentieri's concerts are characterized by informal spoken presentations. During its 15 years, Sentieri has established a close collaboration with composers such as Lang, Andriessen, MacMillan, Glass, Bryars, Nyman, Wolfe, Vacchi, who write scores for the ensemble or entrust to the ensemble the first Italian performance of their works. Furthermore, the ensemble promotes a new generation of Italian composers, from Boccadoro and Del Corno themselves to Antonioni, Colasanti, Mancuso, Montalbetti and Verrando. Since 1998 Sentieri has been a regular guest at the most prestigious Italian concert seasons (Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatro alla Scala, Biennale di Venezia), at Italy’s main cultural events (FestivaLetteratura/Mantova, Festival della Scienza/Genova) and at important international festivals (Bang On A Can Marathon/New York, SKIF Festival/Saint Petersburg). In Milan, the group has a partnership with Teatridithalia from 1998; since 2010 the ensemble's concerts are held in the new Elfo Puccini venue. Since 2005 Sentieri selvaggi organizes a season of contemporary music with programs of concerts, meetings, master classes, each year focusing on a specific thematic core; with the aim to disseminate contemporary music in unusual settings, the ensemble is also working with writers, architects, scientists, video-makers, actors, directors, rock and jazz musicians, carrying its projects into alternative spaces such as art galleries, streets, squares, shpping malls and universities. The catalogue of CD, DVD and books of the group is made by more than ten titles, released by Einaudi, RaiTrade, MN Records, Velut Luna, Sensible Records. Since 2003, Sentieri is signed to Cantaloupe Music, the New York-based label by Bang On A Can, and produced 4 cds: the most recent one, Zingiber, is dedicated to new italian musical creativity. An important chapter in the work of Sentieri is represented by productions of music theater, which set to involve a wider audience (including Hitler by Filippo Del Corno, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Michael Nyman, The Sound of a Voice by Philip Glass).
