Shiva, one of the best known and most complex divinities in the pantheon of Indian philosophy and religion, may represent either asceticism or destructive fury, dynamism or the cosmic dance, and the acceptance that all reality is fleeting. The bharatanatyam dance and the carnatica music, originally from southern India, have always dedicated numerous pieces to the goddess. Vijna Vasudevan and Renjith Babu are accompanied by an exceptional musical trio for an entire margam (a “complete traditional repertoire”), from the opening offertory dance to the celebratory finale, Tillana – which is to say, “the heart’s happiness”.
