On the fiftieth anniversary of Britten's death, MITO remembers him on several occasions: here in the most intimate way, with a chamber portrait. Quartet No. 2 was composed in 1945 for the 250° anniversary of the death of Purcell, its ideal predecessor: the third movement is a large chaconne on ostinato bass, in the English Baroque tradition.
