Milano
/ 28 May 2009
Two events signaled Wednesday May 27th as an important date for Milan and MITO: The day started at 11:00 a.m. at Palazzo Marino with MITO’s official press conference announcing the 3rd edition for the Festival. The conference was presented by the Mayors of Milano and Torino, Letizia Moratti and Sergio Chiamparino respectively, with Cultural Commissioners Massimiliano Finazzer Flory and Fiorenzo Alfieri. Also present to give testimony for the MITO Festival were President of the Festival Francesco Micheli, Vice President Angelo Chianale, and Artistic Director Enzo Restagno. The special opportunity of having Maestro Lorin Maazel and Maestro Jordi Savall participate, (protagonists for the opening and closing of the artistic programming of the Festival), gave a unique touch to the occasion. Later in the afternoon the day concluded with a performance at Teatro alla Scala with the young, internationally flavored Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, led by legendary Maestro Lorin Maazel. In attendance, interspersed throughout the theater, was a youthful crowd composed of students from throughout Lombardia and Piemonte who were left fascinated by the traditional Arabian Instruments and their unique sounds emanating from the heart of the orchestra. Arabian Concerto by Lebanese composer Marcel Khalifé, (who was present at the concert), was received with great enthusiasm, as was the celebrated Boléro of Ravel. For a finale the orchestra and Maestro Maazel, lightening the mood with some commentary from the podium, presented a special encore featuring Bachar Khalifé playing Salute, (also by Marcel Khalifé), a showpiece for Tabla with orchestra. The concert concluded with fervent applause leaving high aspirations for the coming edition of MITO Settembre Musica’s commencement in September. Click here to see the photos and videos.
