LA VENEXIANA, founded by Claudio Cavina, is today the most important madrigal group actually in activity.
In style with the anonymous renassaince comedy from which is named, LA VENEXIANA aims to incorporate into its musical interpretation the theatrically attention to language in all of its subtlety, and exultation of contrasts between refined and popular, sacred and profane, that characterize our culture today.
Since the beginning of 1998 LA VENEXIANA collaborates exclusively with the Spanish label GLOSSA.
LA VENEXIANA’s collection, nominated Il Madrigale Italiano, included madrigals books by Monteverdi, Luzzaschi, Luca Marenzio, D'India, De Wert, won International Prix as PRIX CECILIA 1999, PRIX CINI 2000, PRIX AMADEUS 2000, GRAMOPHONE AWARD 2001, CANNES CLASSICAL AWARD 2002, GRAND PRIX DU DISQUE ACADEMIE CHARLES CROSS 2003, AMADEUS'S CD OF THE YEAR 2001, DEUTSCHSCHALLPLATTENKRITIK 2005 and 2006 and CHOC of YEAR 2006: all these proclaimed LA VENEXIANA as the “New Orpheus of the Italian madrigal repertoire”.
In 2007/8 LA VENEXIANA performed on stage the Ballo delle Ingrate and Era la Notte (production of Paola Reggiani) at Festival Van Vlanderen, Vevey, Hamburg, Cremona Festival Monteverdi, Eilat, Madrid Teatro Real, Potsdam Sansoucci, Amsterdam Concertbegouw.
In 2008 LA VENEXIANA concluded the recording of Monteverdi Edition, that offered as the most important news of the Year.
The Grand Tour with L'ORFEO by Monteverdi was a great success in London, Melk, Regensburg, Lyon, Weingarten, Jerez, Bruges, Udine, Modena, St. Gallen, Viterbo, Eilat, and on 2008/2009 will be presented in Sablé, Chantilly, Seattle.
This recording was CHOC de Le Monde de la Musique, Orfeo's First Choice of BBC Classical Music and Gramophone's Editor Choice 2007 and the GRAMOPHONE AWARD 2008 (Baroque Opera).
A new Opera Project of LA VENEXIANA was INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA (2008) recorded by Glossa, rappresented in Herne, Paris (Cité de la Musique), Regensburg, Milan, Perigueux.
Other projects was: in 2010 Artemisia by Francesco Cavalli (Hannover Herrenhausen and Festival Montpellier/Radio France) and for 2011 The Return of Ulysse by Monteverdi (Regensburg Tage Alte Musik, Paris Cité de la Musique and Concertgebouw Amsterdam).
The Monteverdi’s Operas Trilogy is one of the most important recording of the XXI century.
Round M’, Monteverdi meet Jazz was full of enthusiastical reviews in all world.
New repertoires are performing by La Venexiana: Opera’s Arias, Scarlatti’s Oratorios, Bach Cantatas, Handel and Vivaldi Vocal Music, and a…Handel Jazz Programe (will be performed in Halle Handel Festipiele) : all programs that explain the unmistak style of La Venexiana.
LA VENEXIANA has established a new style in Italian early music performance: a warm, truly Mediterranean blend of textual declamation, rhetorical colour and harmonic refinement.
