Corale 7 Torri di Settimo Torinese

Last update: before 2019
In January 1981 some people guided by Vittorio Frigerio, coming from other choral formation, decided to continue to sing, starting from the beginning with new understandings. The center of the practicing was, at first, the Vittorio Balbo’s (singer) lounge and subsequently the Gianfranco Salmaso and Claudio Bianco’s one. The repertory comprised popular songs and sacred pholyphony; the group was formed by 25 elements. That’s been the situation for the following four years, and in 1985 we had to leave this place of practicing, because our friends had moved elsewhere. We find hospitality at San Pietro in Vincoli Church in Settimo Torinese, managed by priest Guglielmo Pistone, passionate musician of choral singing. At that moment we needed to increase our musical skills, therefore we organized a “solfeggio cantato” course by Mr Bernardo Dolce. At the same time a supporter (Armando Baratella) offered the chance to restore a double floors house, where we got a new place for our practices. We worked two years with the pleasant help of some friends. At the end the result was excellent. In that period the repertory increased with a new style, that of “Coro Bajolese” (director Amerigo Vigliermo) from “Canavese area”. It was a very important moment, when we took part succesfully in some competitions. In 1992 our Director Vittorio Frigerio moved to Agliè (Turin) and left the choir. Giovanni Cucci, present Director, started his job with us; we began to study the Leone Sinigaglia’s songs and the “solfeggio cantato” again (R. Goitre’s method). We also finished to study the songs from “Opera 40b” composed by L. Sinigaglia; so we plan to record our first compact disk, “18 Vecchie canzoni popolari del Piemonte” performed in San Guglielmo Church in Mezzi Po hamlet. In 1996, to get a better comfort and independence, we moved to the other supporter friend’s house, in Settimo Torinese downtown. The repertory improved with songs from the 900’s masterpieces; moreover, the opportunity of creating a big philharmonic chorus comes, called “Ruggero Maghini”, together with the “Coro Polifonico di Sommarivav Bosco”, the “Bottega Musicale” from San Raffaele Cimena, the “Corale Roberto Goitre” from Turin and Ottetto Vocale “Cantus Firmus” from Mondovi'; Maestro Claudio Chiavazza is the artistic director. We started to collaborate with Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, performing Busoni, Prokofìev, Liszt, RaveI, Bhrams, Haendel, Grieg, Strauss and Berlioz. From 1994 we participated in other competitions, obtaining a lot of prizes. In 2005 the Choir published a book called "Casina sola" (Publishing House Zedde, Turin). The work collects ancient folk songs from Piedmont, revisited by contemporary composers. With this success we become popular in the choral environment and we get many requests to work with the most important national and international choral meetings.
