When Scarlatti, of Naples, came to Spain as Princess Maria Barbara’s music teacher, the Neapolitan master found himself surrounded by lights, colors, landscapes, rhythms and instruments – such as the guitar – that added to his already rich background in terms of harpsichord sonatas. Turning the game upside-down, the guitar becomes the real deal, in an elegant and exciting show of mirrors.
