Sama’a characterizes a mystical musical genre. In the Moslem world it has been used down the ages as a cure for both physical and mental illness. Groups that perform this music have learned it within fraternal organizations. The Sama’a of Fes represents the oldest and richest traditions of the genre, since the 1400s a blend of Moroccan traditions, influences from the Arab world and Spanish hybridizations.
