Roméo et Juliette, created for the Ballet Preljocaj in 1996, is the ballet that catapulted Preljocaj onto the international dance scene and launched a stunning career. Passion, urban decay, social conflict, and powerfully evocative music by Prokofiev all play a part in making this work a masterpiece. Preljocaj tells us about the world through dance, focusing on heavy-duty themes, which are explored with a lean but forceful and energized gestural language, marked by great physicality.
