Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Katowice

The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra represents the polish culture at the international artistic scene. It worked together with some of the most famous compositors of the twentieth century: Witold Lutoslawski, Henryk M. Gorecki and Krzysztof Pendrecki. The Orchestra was created in 1935 in Varsavia, by Grzegorz Fitelberg that has guided it until the burst of World War II. In 1945 the Orchesyta was reformed in Katowice by Witold Rowicki. In 1947 Fitelberg took back his role as director and after his death the orchestra was given to Jan Krenz, Bohdan Wodiczko, Kazimierz Kord, Tadeusz Strugala, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Stanislaw Wislocki, Jacek Kaspszyk, Antoni Wit, Grabriel Chmura and Kaspszyk. The orchesyta has recorded more than 200 CDs for numerous and important recording companies including Decca, EMI, Philips, Chandos, Naxos, CD that have receives important prices such as Diapason d’or, Grand Pix du Disque, Cannes and Midem Classical Award. In more recent years the PNRSO has presented some extraordinary projects that have been enjoyed both by the audience and the musical critics (Maratona Gorecki, Gorecki-Penderecki Festival and many more.) Since 2005 the Orchestra organizes a manifestation with the title The Festival of World Premieres-Polish Modern Music.
