In six concerts, the young musicians of the Eliot Quartet present fifteen string quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich – a true musical journey through the composer’s stylistic evolution and the tensions of his era. These compositions alternate between irony, drama and lyricism, with a language that is at times tonal, at times dissonant. Taken together, the quartets offer an intimate, deeply introspective portrait of the artist, revealing influences from Russian folklore as well as his openness to the avant-garde movement.
