For centuries, Constantinople was the center of the Byzantine liturgical and musical tradition. Following Ottoman conquest in 1453, the city lived in harmony with the Islamic musical tradition – and has done so to this day. Here we get a glimpse of that intercultural and interreligious context with a rare coupling of ensembles directed by two of today’s leading exponents of those traditions.
