Since the 1970s music producer extraordinaire and genius bassman Bill Laswell has been moving with versatile creativity to the sounds of jazz, funk and rock and dub. In the ’90s he met up with the Master Musicians of Jajouka, an ensemble featuring flutes, drums, trumpets and lutes. They hail from a tiny village in Morocco and are conducted by Bachir Attar. Here accompanied by the bass lines of Laswell and the sounds of his band Material. The Rif Mountain music tradition, which also seduced William Burroughs and Brian Jones, and the hypnotic trance of the Moroccan highlands collide with New York rock and electronic trips.
