The young Norwegian mezzo-soprano Tuva Semmingsen studied at the Norwegian State Academy of Music and the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen. She made a highly successful debut at the Royal Danish Opera as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro in 2000. Since then she has made a name for herself as one of Scandinavia’s most exciting up-and-coming singers. She has worked with conductors such as William Christie, Emmanuelle Haïm, Fabio Biondi, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Federico Guglielmo, Paolo Olmi, Christopher Hogwood, Robert King, Mario Venzago, Giancarlo Andretta, Peter Feranc, Thomas Dausgaard, Mark Tatlow and Lars Ulrik Mortensen. Her opera engagements have included Sesto in Giulio Cesare at Opéra de Lille, Idamante in Idomeneo in Paris, Lyon and New York, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro at Teatro la Fenice in Venice, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Opéra de Nancy, Angelina in La Cenerentola with Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Feodor in Boris Godunov for the Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos, Doralice in Rossini’s La gazzetta for Garsington Opera, Sesto in Giuglio Cesare, and Melanto in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria at the Royal Danish Opera, and Sesto and Rosina in at the Norwegian National Opera. Tuva Semmingsen frequently appears at festivals and concert venues throughout Europe. Her concert repertoire include Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in c minor, JS Bach’s St. John Passion, Mass in b Minor, Christmas Oratorio, Magnificat as well as many Cantatas, C.Ph.E Bach’s Magnificat, Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos and Stabat Mater, Händel’s Judas Maccabaeus and Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Charpentier’s Te Deum, Buxtehude’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Gloria e Imeneo, Juditha Triumphans, Longe Malae, Magnificat, Nisi Dominus, Stabat Mater and Sum in Medio Tempestatum, and Purcell’s Praise the Lord and Welcome to All The Pleasures. Engagements in the season 2007/2008 included Sesto in Giulio Cesare at the Norwegian Opera, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Grand Théâtre Reims, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Nerone in L'Incoronazione di Poppei at the Royal Danish Opera, the title role in Vivaldi’s Ottone in villa at Teatro Olimpico Vicenza, Melanto and Amore in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in patria at the Drottningholm Festival in Stockholm, arias by Vivaldi with the Danish Radio Orchestra, and arias by Vivaldi as well as a solo recital at the Bergen International Festival. In the autumn of 2008 she sang Rosmira in Händel’s Partenope at the Royal Danish Opera, arias by Vivaldi and Galuppi with Concerto Veneziano and the conductor Giancarlo Andretta, and Bach’s Chistmas Oratorio with the conductor Philip Pickett. Upcoming engagements include Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande and Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Royal Danish Opera, Rosmira in Händel’s Partenope at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Dorabella in Così fan tutte at the Glyndebourne Festival, Mirtenia in Christophe Graupner’s L'amore ammalato: Antiochus und Stratonica at the Boston Early Music Festival, and concerts of Bach's Mass in b minor. Her recordings include Vivaldi’s Sum in medio and Gloria e Imeneo with The King’s Consort, the title role in Vivaldi’s Ottone in villa (to be released), and Sesto in Giulio Cesare on DVD.
