Naples was once the capital of European music, and Domenico Scarlatti was born there in 1685. Much of his work was conducted elsewhere, but it was in Naples that he studied and had his first commissions. There improvisation techniques, once taught in the city’s four conservatories, nourished his art on the harpsichord.
