Teatro San Babila opened its doors in 1966, inaugurated by Cardinal Colombo. Since September 2002 the theater has been managed by the firm TI.ESSE.BI. srl, headed by Gennaro D’Avanzo, with artistic direction by Mario Maramotti. Teatro San Babila aims at innovation, with a focus on new actors and young companies. The theater has had an average of 3,500 pass-holders for each of its past four seasons. Teatro San Babila has hosted a total of 896 performances of 32 plays, by playwrights such as Luigi Pirandello, Ugo Chiti, Luigi De Filippo, Carlo Goldoni, Neil Simon, as well as contemporary Italian authors including Maurizio Costanzo and Claudio Forti and international names such as O. Lejeune and Alan Ayckbourn. Without neglecting the likes of Rino Silveri and Carlo Buccirosso, whose emotionally charged performances laced with social awareness and current events topics are a perfect match with the theater’s commitment to developments in the world around us.
