The 17th-century palazzo that is home to Torino’s MAO (Museum of Oriental Art), is named after the Mazzonis family, textile merchants with headquarters here for nearly a century, beginning in the second half of the 1800s. Court offices occupied the palazzo from the 1980s to 2001. Opened in 2008, on display at the MAO are prestigious collections of art from Tibet, China, Afghanistan and other Middle Eastern and South Asian countries.
