“You could not play unmusically, even if you tried hard to do so,” was the verdict of one international panel of judges on the young pianist Leonie Rettig, who has won first and second prizes in various national and international competitions. Born in 1991, Leonie Rettig took her first music lessons on the piano at the age of eight. Here her outstanding talent for the piano quickly became evident; her first public appearances soon followed and she was awarded a City of Stuttgart scholarship to join STUVO, a sponsorship scheme for the highly gifted. Only after a short time of 3 years playing the piano Leonie Rettig started to take part at national and international competitions: between 2002 and 2003 won three 1st and two 2nd prizes at national youth competitions and won the 2nd Prize of the Nikolai Rubinstein international piano competition in Paris in 2004. Orchestra engagements with the Nuremberg Symphonic Orchestra and the Landeskapelle Eisenach soon followed. She gave her first solo recital at the age of fourteen and made her concert début with Grieg’s piano concerto. Since then her performing schedule has taken her to various cities both within Germany and elsewhere in Europe. She performed at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Leipzig “piano summer” in the Mendelssohn House, at the concerts at Schloss Kirchheim and Schloss Haigerloch, at the Oberstdorf “summer of music”, the “classics in Spandau” festival in Berlin and the international music festival at Viana do Costelo, Portugal. Other engagments have taken her to Rome, Kiev, Pretoria and Johannesburg. “I think, she has‚ it” (Chris Alder, producer and Grammy winner), “She’s a exceptionally talented pianist”(Peter Buck, Melos Quartet) and “Highly gifted” (Simone Young), “A good interpreter of the most profound, dark and tragic Romanticism”(Juror), “She has exceptional gifts in sound and musical feeling” (Juror), and “impressive technical facility and beautiful tone production” are only a few high praising sentences of important musicians about Leonie Rettig. Since the 2007/08 winter season Leonie Rettig has been studying with Professor Vladimir Krainev at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater” in Hannover. Since 2012 she is studying with the renowned pianist, writer and teacher Piero Rattalino at the international Piano Academy “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola, Italy.
