Trumpeter Ron Horton has been a staple on the New York scene since 1982. In that time he has distinguished himself as an instrumentalist, composer, and arranger while consistently expanding the parameters of jazz not just as a sideman but also as a leader. Born in Bethesda Maryland in 1960 Horton has collaborated with Lee Konitz, Rez Abbasi, Phillip Johnston, Andy Laster, Mick Rossi, Matt Wilson, Bill Mays, Peggy Stern, Allan Chase, Andy Biskin, Ted Nash, Jon Gordon, John McKenna, Walter Thompson, Diana Perez, Billy Newman, Mario Pavone, and is currently a member of the Will Holshouser Trio as well as the Ben Allison Quartet. Ron Horton has worked extensively with musicians Andrew Hill and Jane Ira Bloom. In particular, Horton was part of the ensemble of the legendary Andrew Hill from 1998 until 2003 and with Hill recorded the CD Dusk (Palmetto Records - 2000), which has been highly regarded by critics and the public alike. Horton has also been musical director and arranger for the Hill's big band. His arrangements can be heard on the disc A Beautiful Day (Palmetto Records - 2002) A fundamental aspect in Horton's career has been his particpation in the Jazz Composers Collective, since it's foundation in 1982. His playing is present in numerous discs of the Jazz Composers Collective, as well as Ben Allison, Michael Blake, and Herbie Nichols.
