SCHUBERT’S OCTET
Territory in and of itself. This piece was commissioned by a clarinetist who explicitly asked Schubert to take inspiration from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. And so he did, although he added an instrument and imbued the score with a special tenderness, courtesy of the upbeat brio wafting throughout.
