Built from 1932 to 1935 based on Milanese architect Piero Portaluppi’s design, Villa Necchi Campiglio is a sumptuous home whose perfectly preserved spacious interiors, precious construction materials, and richly decorated drawing rooms recount the history, rituals, and society and daily life of the Milanese upper classes of the mid-1900s. One of Portaluppi’s major accomplishments, Villa Necchi Campiglio, located on Via Mozart, marks the urban villa’s architectural transition to modernity. An expression of the novelties introduced in the 20th century, the villa also highlights the architect’s own creative verve, whose statements still appear extremely fresh and original. Further work on the villa by architect Tomaso Buzzi, in the latter post-WWII period, adds even more richness and comfort to the interior design.
Amid a sprawling garden with its own tennis courts and swimming pool, Villa Necchi Campiglio remains a jewel unaltered by time, and is home to two more precious jewels: the extraordinary Claudia Gian Ferrari collection of early 20th-century art, featuring works by, among others, Sironi, Martini and De Chirico; and Alighiero and Emilietta De Micheli’s elegant collection of decorative art and paintings from the 18th century, including works by Canaletto, Rosalba Carriera and Michele Marieschi.
