What originated as the Civica Scuola di Musica in 1862 to train musicians of the Civica Banda and members of the La Scala choir, the International Academy of Music has been part of Milano’s Fondazione Scuole Civiche since 2000. It comprises five schools - Istituto di Musica Antica, Istituto di Musica Classica, Istituto di Ricerca Musicale IRMus, Civici Corsi di Jazz, I Civici Cori – each of which offers especially-focused training in well-defined stylistic and thematic areas. The Academy also proposes individual, group and orchestral courses, held at outlying Musical Education Centers, taught by experts in elementary and advanced musical training.
