Milano’s Teatro Nuovo is a part of the city’s recent history. Since its opening, a succession of art directors, including Remigio Paone, followed by the Ghizzo family, has focused on innovation and quality. Programs have blended the traditional classics with all-new Italian and international productions. The stage has hosted great Italian actors, the likes of Totò, Macario, Alberto Sordi, Wanda Osiris, Mariangela Melato and Massimo Ranieri, and international stars such as Liza Minnelli, Jerry Lewis, Carl Anderson and Amii Steward. Teatro Nuovo saw the birth of modern Italian musicals with the legendary production of Grease starring Lorella Cuccarini, while contemporary dance made its Italian debut here with early performances by what would become the legendary Momix troupe.
