The renewed Central Station is a symbol of the modernization process of the city, the new "Renaissance of Milan". Its renovation represents, not only symbolically, the recovery of all Milan and therefore its modernity yet to tell. Today it is an important and vital part of the city where old and new blend together harmoniously.
After three years of work, a careful restoration and an investment of over 120 million Euros, the city can see the complete renovation of the monumental part of Milano Centrale.
A primary aspect of the redevelopment implemented is the important operation of conservative restoration done in collaboration with the Sovrintendenza per i Beni Architettonici of Milan, that has let to a mindful preservation of the monumental parts, thanks also to advanced techniques.The architectural project is based instead on the reorganization of internal routes and the upgrade of the service system.
The “Galleria delle Carrozze” has been closed to the traffic to become a prestigious transition area, which you can approach from the underground with new elevators and treadmills that make the access to the Station easier. It has been realized a new-designed ticket office and an internal path that creates a new, important and direct communication between Piazza Luigi di Savoia and Piazza IV Novembre.
The business activities have been completely renovated with the creation of safer and more comfortable spaces; even the lighting system and the communication and travelers information system have been completely reviewed.
Finally, an hidden gem: the Royal Pavilion, built in 1925 as " Waiting room for the King Vittorio Emanuele III and His family”, has been restored and it has returned to its original splendor.
