This ultramodern, stainless-steel-and-glass-clad parallelepiped, with a base that’s 183 by 100 meters, 12 meters high and descending 7.5 meters under ground, seats 12,300 arena style, and was the site of the ice hockey competition at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Architect Arata Isozaki designed the structure to be an “event factory” which may be adapted to various uses, including conferences and rock and symphonic music concerts for large audiences.
