At 163.35 meters, the Mole Antonelliana is till this day the world’s tallest brickwork building. Architect Alessandro Antonelli began the project in 1862, for what was originally intended as a synagogue. In 2001 the Mole became the spectacular headquarters for Italy’s National Museum of Cinema. Concerts are held in structure’s immense atrium, which is the heart of the museum, wrapped in a spiral ramp reminiscent of a fragment of celluloid, and penetrated by a glass elevator that whisks visitors up to an observation deck.
