In 1905 during excavations in the church’s crypt, bricks were found with the mark belonging to King Teodorico (493-526 A.D.). The site on which this church is located was once an ancient cemetery outside the city walls, along the road to Rome. To this day the outer walls on the right side of the church contain several pagan and Christian funerary tablets, taken from the old necropolis. Externally, the church has conserved the Romanesque apse, while the right side presents visible brickwork laid in the fishbone style. The bell tower is particular, with bell housing reconstructed in the sixteen hundreds. The atmosphere is evocative and compact, austere in its architecture and spacious nave, which concludes with the soft curves of the apse.
