Founded in 2000 the Orchestra UniMi has become – thanks to Alessandro Crudele who has been its musical director for twenty years – an important reality in the Milanese orchestral world, representing a new venture in the Italian music scene. Nowadays the orchestra works regularly with internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists such as Petr Altrichter, John Axelrod, Paul Badura-Skoda, Mario Brunello, Davide Cabassi, Natalie Clein, Francesca Dego, Enrico Dindo, Ingrid Fliter, Bernhard Güller, Viviane Hagner, Martin Helmchen, Paul Mann, Céline Moinet, Isabelle Moretti, Gerhard Oppitz, Roberto Paternostro, Vadim Repin, Fazil Say, Ragna Schirmer, Bojan Suđić, Sergio Tiempo, Bramwell Tovey, Milan Turkovic, Anika Vavic and Lilya Zilberstein, just to mention a few. At the beginning, the Orchestra UniMi collaborated with principals of the La Scala Philharmonic and, over the last seasons, also worked with principals or former principals of the Berliner Philharmoniker, such as Kolja Blacher, Stefan Dohr, Wenzel Fuchs, Karl Leister, Albrecht Mayer and Sarah Willis, and principals of the Staatskapelle Dresden, such as Céline Moinet and Yuki Manuela Janke. Always sensible to contemporary music, from 2013 the Orchestra Unimi is the only Italian symphonic orchestra performing in all its concerts a piece of a living composer. The Orchestra UniMi is regularly welcome guest at MITO Settembre Musica – the most important Music Festival in Italy.
