SPRINGS

In 1901, from the trunk of a 19th century that by this point had appeared sterile, Rachmaninoff’s most famous score sprouted, bubbling with lyricism and expressive happiness. Twelve years later Stravinsky invented a new baptismal ritual for the 20th century, and with the explosion of The Rite of Spring he sparked the effervescence of the avant-garde. Two antithetical springs, reunited side by side.
