The performance features readings from selections of the E.T.A. Hoffmann tale that inspired Tchaikovsky’s composition of the famed ballet. In this reworking, each piece is arranged in styles illustrated by the musicians themselves. Danse arabe comes with an ethnic taste, Danse chinoise appears to be a miniature gamelan. Also look for nods to Duke Ellington, who once created a jazz version, Nutcracker Suite. Here’s a Nutcracker like you’ve never heard it before! ___________________________ For children ages 6 and up
