The performance features readings from selections of the E.T.A. Hoffmann tale that inspired Tchaikovsky’s composition of the famed ballet. In this reworking, each piece is arranged in styles illustrated by the musicians themselves. Danse arabe comes with an ethnic taste, Danse chinoise appears to be a miniature gamelan.
