MITO SettembreMusica is the international music festival that since 2007 has brought the cities of Milano and Torino together for grand annual showcases of musical events. Throughout three weeks each September, MITO SettembreMusica offers audiences the chance to wind their way along the musical itinerary of their choice, with a broad-ranging, multi-faceted program sure to satisfy the demands of experts and the curiosity of all. From classical to contemporary, from jazz to rock, from pop to ethnic music – all the quality of great music with many free-admission performances and popular-priced seating. Plus there are film screenings, round tables, exhibitions, panel discussions and children’s and teens’ events.
Four to five events daily, featuring internationally renowned artists and groups, thrill the two Italian cities, where performances are hosted in some of the most spectacular locations. The festival’s artistic programming has focused on the specific characteristics of Milano and Torino to create one immense stage that unites the two metropolitan areas, and each performance is a one-time only opportunity. Music reaches out across borders, and not only geographically speaking. MITO Settembre Musica takes audiences beyond the concert hall and the grand temples of culture, to performances in locations including churches, piazzas, museums, parks, subway stations and universities. Extraordinary concerts are also scheduled for stadium-size shows at Milano’s Palasharp and Torino’s Palaolimpico Isozaki, where many of the 18,000 spectators will be enjoying live classical music for the first time. The MITO Settembre Musica spotlight is also on the discovery of cultural diversity. Each year a guest Country is selected, whose music and cultures become the focus of an original and animated festival within the festival. The series features concerts, film screenings, book presentations and round table discussions. Musical heights accessible to all, on a huge stage spanning two cities, at popular prices. That’s the winning formula at MITO SettembreMusica, host to over 155,000 spectators in 2011.
