…piazza Mercanti
The stage features several shows during the first part of the series. This year MITOFringe works in conjunction with the traditional Break in Jazz series, thanks to support from Unione Confcommercio Milano and collaboration with the cultural association Musica Oggi. From May 28 to June 12 audiences are invited to a real break from the daily hustle and bustle in one of the city’s prettiest settings.
…piazza Mercanti, an afternoon of family music
Continuing an event begun last year, MITOFringe dedicates an afternoon to musical talents under the age of 12 and their parents and families, onstage in Piazza Mercanti. Come play, sing and dance at the open mic session, Sunday, June 12. The fun starts at 4 p.m.!
…the subway, Duomo station
For the third consecutive year MITOFringe, in conjunction with ATM, brings music to the city’s subway stations. From June 4 to July 2, every Friday and Saturday beginning at 4 p.m., inside the Duomo station, a cavalcade of musicians from a host of genres go underground with live music. Hour-long sets of classical, jazz, pop, gospel, hip hop, rhythm and blues, folk and rock. Coming June 21 for the Festa della Musica, three groups from 4 to 7 p.m.: Mahadhi, the Clarinet Trio and Haggadàh.
…the Cadorna train station
For the first time ever, thanks to support from TRENORD, the notes of MITOFringe reach the Cadorna station. Two performances dedicated to ethnic, jazz and classical music. It’s the Identità Plurali trio on June 28 and the Civica Milano Sax Quartet.
…the Navigli Canals
Every summer the Navigli canal district teems with life and serves up a heap of cultural events. This year, for the first time ever, the Naviglio Grande at the vicolo Privato Lavandai intersection becomes the wondrous setting for two MITOFringe concerts. In conjunction with Navigli Lombardi S.c.a.r.l. and Istituto per i Navigli-Associazione Amici dei Navigli.
…city parks
The festive atmosphere of Dixieland bands! Three open-air concerts bring to life Milano’s parks. Sunday, May 29, 4:30 p.m. at the Indro Montanelli Park, via Palestro; Thursday, June 2, 4 p.m., at Parco Sempione, featuring Deipetos Dixie Disaster. On Sunday, June 12, 11 a.m., at the Indro Montanelli Park, it’s the Civica Orchestra di Fiati.
…outlying districts
MITOFringe brings jazz and classical music to outlying districts. Coming May 31, the Dergano-Bovisa Public Library presents a piano duo. The Flight Band appears June 16, in piazza Santa Giustizia ad Affori, with support from Unione Confcommercio Milano. Classical music at the Cascina San Romano di Bosco in Città, June 19.
…downtown streets and piazzas
Concerts in the piazzas and streets of downtown Milano, in venues that showcase some of the city’s greatest yet often ignored art and architecture. Coming May 31, June 15 and 21, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, at the corner of via San Paolo, a program that ranges from Italian to world folk. Two MITOFringe concerts at the via Dante-via Rovello intersection, June 14 and 18. Plus three concerts at Colonne di San Lorenzo.
…universities
This year MITOFringe brings music to the city’s most important universities, with five outdoor campus concerts. Venues include Università Bocconi (via Roentgen), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, the University of Miano, and Caffè Letterario dell’Università IULM.
…bookstores and more
Always on the lookout for the cutting edge in research and transformation, MITOFringe serves up live music in bookstores and beyond. Check out performances at Italy’s largest Feltrinelli store, Feltrinelli Express, recently inaugurated at Milano’s Central Station, and the historic Feltrinelli location in Piazza Piemonte, as well as at the Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia display for the inauguration of the exhibition Milano – un minuto prima.

Three goups of young musicians, students and recent grads from the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Torino, bring their music to some 70 different non-conventional venues.

Music comes psychiatric centers and half-way houses, rest homesrest homes, hospitals and clinics, reformatories and prisons, with the support of social cooperatives, local healthcare institutions and non-sectarian and religious organizations in Torino.
